About Mateusz Chabaj
About
I'm a UI/UX designer working on web and mobile products. My job is to make complicated software clear, and to specify it well enough that developers don't have to guess.
I didn't start in design. I studied computer science, specialised in network information systems, and spent years working in IT — system testing, service desk, Active Directory, network inventory, managing corporate sites. I saw a lot of software built by people who never had to use it, and a lot of good ideas lost somewhere between the spec and the screen.
So I moved to the side of the process where that gets decided. The work I want is at the complicated end — internal tools, dense workflows, products where the rules are strict and people are doing real work under real pressure. Simplifying something genuinely complex is more interesting to me than decorating something simple.
The engineering background is still the most useful thing I have. I know what a developer needs from a handoff, what questions come up during the build, and which decisions are cheap now and expensive later. I design accordingly.
Beyond the interface itself, the part I value most is the connection — with the people who use the product, and with the team building it. Good design comes out of good conversations.
